An honors graduate of Ohio State University, Lon Doles began a high school teaching career. He then entered Ohio State University’s Medical Physiology graduate program, earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery with top honors in Oral Surgery and being named Outstanding Oral Surgery Student. He completed an Oral Surgery internship at the University of Georgia Medical College as well as an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency.

Since starting private practice in Charleston in 1976, Dr. Doles has served on the teaching staff of the Medical University of South Carolina and as a State Dental Board Examiner for Oral Surgery applicants. In 1997, he and Dr. Carroll Gallagher developed the state’s first in-office general anesthesia surgical center for sophisticated oral and maxillofacial surgery, which was featured by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

A familiar name to dental colleagues, Dr. Doles is a frequent lecturer on regional, national and international levels. He is highly regarded for his oral and maxillofacial skills, particularly in orthognathic surgery, dental implantology, bone grafting and third molar surgery.

Taking particular pride in a remarkable record of safety, Dr. Doles is known for oral surgery that is fully comfortable and successful. He shares his wealth of knowledge with dental students and residents. He also lends his extensive skills to mission work. Professional affiliations include:

biology. While an undergraduate, Dr. Carson participated in neurotransmitter research at MUSC.

He attended the Medical University of South Carolina Dental School, where he ranked in the top ten percent of his class. During his tenure at MUSC, Dr. Carson received both the Ben Irby Oral Surgery Award and the Removable Prosthodontics Award.

Dr. Carson finished his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at MUSC. During his final year there, he served as Chief Resident. After completing his training, Dr. Carson joined Dr. Lon Doles at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates. Dr. Carson also has privileges to perform surgery at Roper St. Francis Hospitals.

Eligible for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Carson focuses his professional interests on orthognathic surgery and oral infections.
